This Maker Educator series brought together educational researchers and K-12 practitioners to discuss key topics and issues in making and learning. For this first webinar, guests tackled the question, “What is design?” and shared their perspectives on design and designing in education. They also offered examples of how to design effectively and thoughtfully in a wide-variety of classroom contexts and how developing a sensitivity to design can improve student understanding.

Guests for this webinar included:

  • Jessica Parker, Director, Maker Certificate Program at Sonoma State University
  • Ilya Pratt, Learning Specialist: K and 1st Grade, Park Day School
  • Molly Shea, Director, Center for Informal Learning and Schools
  • Aaron Vanderwerff, Creativity Lab and Science Director, Lighthouse Community Charter School
