Networed Narratives (#netnarr) is an open connected course of digital storytelling, world building, civic imagination, and a bit of digital alchemy hosted online and as a course at Kean University during the Spring 2017.

This studio visit, co-streamed here at Educator Innovator, is with Flourish Klink and Elizabeth Minke with a focus on participatory culture, networks, fan fiction, and new ways to think of “authorship.”

What is fanfiction, and what is it not? Why does fanfiction matter? And what makes it so important to the future of literature? How does fan fiction work? What does it mean to world build? How do practitioners of fan fiction engage their civic imagination?

We explore common fan fiction practices, share examples of forums and communities of practice, favorite “fansplaining” moments, and why fanfiction is a bellweather for 21st century transmedia culture.
